This effect has created a jaded fanbase and with every passing Marvel movie, the pressure to deliver big in the next project keeps getting bigger.

Although a lot of the content has been very good in the post Avengers: Endgame era, most notably the Loki series and Spider-Man No Way Home, the rest of the projects have been met by a divided fanbase and subpar critical performance. I know there are many fans who were very happy about getting so much Marvel content so they could deep dive more into this world but my main concern was an oversaturation of Marvel content which can hamper their future blockbuster releases. Unfortunately, then came the Disney+ deal. However, as soon as the film was over the feeling of “This will never be topped again” had taken over my mind.ĭespite this my hopes were high because I had a lot of faith in the Marvel machine which had been able to churn out box office hits for a decade proving all their detractors wrong. That moment captured a decade long wait of all fans and the fact that it was realised with so much emotional weight and nerdy thoughtfulness makes it the crescendo of all entertainment.

I don’t think there will be a more epic scene than Captain America saying “Avengers Assemble” as all the protagonists line up behind him to fight Thanos’s army.

It’s a bittersweet moment as a Marvel fan because it gave me much needed closure in terms of all my beloved characters and their stories but it also left me with a doubt of quality of what was to follow. However, kudos to Kevin Feige and John Favreau who had the foresight that most people did not and went on to inaugurate a cinematic universe which completely took over the film industry for a decade.įast forward to 2019, Avengers: Endgame completed an entire story arc built over 20+ films and 10+ years involving 100s of characters who were each done justice by the end of that film. Looking back at it now it almost seems like business suicide to make such a decision. Marvel, headed by Kevin Feige was able to gather both aspects of storytelling through an innovative approach which mainstreamed the world of nerds into a billion-dollar industry.ĭespite selling the rights to their most popular franchises like X-Men and Spider-Man, Marvel was defiant in its entry into the film industry as they cast Robert Downey Jr. A success story which completely changed the outlook of film critics who always leaned more towards more soulful and emotional storytelling as opposed a visual feast that that captures the imagination. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the underdog story of the film industry.
